New Twod layout competition
This page is for a competition to build a new layout for the re-development of Twod.co.uk. Please read all sections of the 'brief' for the final layout. All layouts will be displayed on the first post of the new Twod :)

This competition ends on the 15th of February 2006. Although this deadline will extend if no suitable layouts are found by then.

If you would like to advertise on the new Twod site once it's launched,

Advertising Information
Advertising is priced for the first 2 weeks of the site opening at $50 a spot (ending in 28th of February). There are only 5 spots ever in rotation, and the spot itself is in prime location for all visitors of the Twod website. Your site will also be archived in the advertising history for all to browse.
What an advertising spot on Twod contains:
- Strictly direct links to your site (no counter links are placed)
- An image banner (roughly 200x100 in size)
- Supporting text link
- Text description (Up to 50 characters)

Competition Information
I'm looking for a simplistic layout with nice soft colouring throughout and black clear text on a white background. A small blurb about the site should appear with links to a full 'about Twod' page and an RSS link for the user to subscribe underneath. The site layout
must contain an advertising spot that meets the
required guidelines. I'd also prefer that the layout does not rely on borders to constrict content and that it
not be heavily graphic.
Its important to note that this layout will be nothing like the current layout, the only things that should remain from the current layout are the "posts by category" links. Do not place flickr images, a link roll, affiliate buttons or big graphics on this layout.
Please read all site related information in order to grasp an idea on what the site is about and look at the inspirational sites section to find out the kinds of layouts I'm liking.

These are layouts I like and should be inspiration for the new layout, but in absolutely no way copied or plagiarised.
31threeYou just can't get more perfect than the look of this layout... the header section is just what I want to see from entries (simple logo/text, nice small background image along the top).
CrunchNotesYou just can't not love the nice colours and header here. Notice the nice menu (this time on the right) with the small blurb and room for links etc. with the headings
Huddle Together
Absolutely genius layout with the columns placing themselves underneath each other if the screen size is smaller than required, if a layout like this to my style was submitted I wouldn't complain.
NovemberBornThe typography in the header is nice :)
WeBreakStuffI absolutely love the left side navigation on the layout, including the small blurb on the blog with the RSS feed link and small advertising placement at the bottom of the menu.

Site related information to help better your layout
Upon "re-launch" with the new layout, the Twod site will focus around offering people professional articles on subjects that they suggest, and subjects that we feel will be good discussions for the community. Example articles could be: Rippers - why they suck and what to do about them, Mod_rewrite and how to use it properly and Web 2.0 - what is it and how will it benefit the web?
Twod will also hold interviews with people that we feel may be of interest to our audience, and will conduct paid-for critical reviews of websites to help better those websites and move them towards the new age of the web.
Post categories for the blog are as follows:
- Articles
- General
- Humour
- Interviews
- Products
- Reviews
- Tutorials

Twod will be stripped of most pages that are currently on the site. An about page and contact page will be available however with some advertising information also being displayed.

Questions on the competition answered so far
I'm a very competent coder and don't claim to be a designer by any stretch. I'd rather I take the site to the next level with a professional design done by someone with experience.

Twod has used a series of ladybugs as logos throughout the past, I would prefer a complete professional re-branding of the site (with new logo) but if you prefer to continue the ladybug theme then this is your choice.

Its your choice whether to do this, but I'm a very competent coder and can easily code the template to standards myself.

The primary function and organisation of the site will be a blog yes.
